Revitalizing the Heart of the Metropolis: Soraya Martinez Ferrada Presents Her Economic Vision for a Safer and More Dynamic Downtown

Soraya Martinez Ferrada, candidate for Mayor of the Metropolis and Leader of Ensemble Montréal, presented her economic vision Wednesday morning in the heart of downtown as part of her 10 Actions in 100 Days series.

A Clear Vision:
To bring new life to downtown, strengthen Montréal’s economic appeal, and build strong partnerships with the business community to collectively address challenges related to safety, cleanliness, and homelessness.

Revitalizing Downtown: An Imperative for Economic Vitality

Amid a housing and homelessness crisis, poor coordination of construction sites, and increasing mobility challenges, Montréal’s downtown is in its worst state in years. A targeted action plan is urgently needed to create a downtown that is vibrant, safe, affordable, clean, and future-oriented.

An Economic Vision Grounded in Partnership and Innovation

Ensemble Montréal’s priority initiatives will help rebuild the trust needed to propel Montréal’s economy and revitalize its downtown core.

By re-establishing a climate of trust, Ensemble Montréal aims to:

  • Strengthen ties with Montréal’s business community by restoring ongoing dialogue and lasting trust, bringing back the city’s ambition to shine among the world’s great metropolises.
  • Create an Economic Coordination Forum bringing together chambers of commerce, industry clusters, business development corporations (SDCs), universities, social economy organizations, and institutional players to jointly define immediate priorities and build a coherent long-term economic vision.
  • Support and focus on strategic and emerging sectors such as aerospace, pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and information technologies.
  • Support local merchants by improving the emergency fund to help them cope with long-term construction disruptions, and by working closely with SDCs to boost the vitality of commercial streets.
  • Strengthen collaboration between businesses, universities, and research centers to drive innovation and promote technology transfer to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
  • Establish new local innovation zones and enhance existing ones to encourage applied research, prototyping, and sustainable development at the neighborhood level.
  • Support the modernization of the Palais des congrès to secure Montréal’s future as a global hub for major events and conferences.

All of Ensemble Montréal’s economic development commitments—available in full on our platform—aim to provide Montréal with a genuine, long-term economic vision.
