Benoit Langevin has been serving as City Councillor for the Bois-de-Liesse district since 2017 and is the official opposition spokesperson on homelessness. A graduate in Cultural Animation and Research, and holder of a Graduate Diploma in Social Administration, Benoit has several years of experience in intervention and social affairs management within community and educational settings across various organizations.
Benoit is a pioneer in establishing outreach work in the West Island of Montreal. He co-founded Action Jeunesse de l’Ouest-de-l’Île in 2007 and Ricochet in 2017, turning them into one of Quebec’s largest youth organizations and an emergency shelter service for the homeless. He also co-chaired the West Island Early Childhood, Family, and Youth Table. His dedication earned him several awards, including the Centraide Emerging Leader Award in 2012, the Mayor’s Award for Democracy in 2015, and the VIVAMTL Citizen Award in 2016.
Since his election as City Councillor for Bois-de-Liesse, Benoit has been recognized for his ability to unite people behind important causes to advance the situation of marginalized communities and youth.
He initiated a motion to address the inequitable distribution of emergency housing resources across Montreal’s neighborhoods. Attentive to the needs of community groups, he proposed a simplified digital system to streamline grant application processes, which is now in place and better serves community organizations. He also led the charge in eliminating construction and permit fees for non-profit organizations (NPOs) in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough to encourage the creation of affordable housing.
