Biographie
Chahi (Sharkie) Tarakjian arrived in Quebec in 1968 with his family, leaving Syria to build a new life. Of Armenian origin, he grew up in the West Island, where he quickly developed a deep attachment to the local community. Like many immigrant families, his faced challenges upon arrival, but through resilience, strong family values, and determination, they were able to establish themselves and thrive over the years.
Passionate about automobiles, Sharkie began his career as a mechanic. However, driven by the desire to offer a more stable and prosperous future for his family, he transitioned into the business world. In 2000, he founded Promo Link, a marketing and advertising company that, for over two decades, has helped hundreds of local businesses grow, gain visibility, and succeed.
Alongside his professional career, community involvement has always been at the heart of his path. For 19 years, Sharkie coached soccer teams in Pierrefonds, and for 16 years, he coached basketball with the West Island Lakers, contributing to the athletic development and well-being of young people in the area.
His commitment extends further: since 2007, he has volunteered with the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence, including serving on its Golf Committee to help organize key fundraising initiatives. He has also collaborated with numerous charitable organizations across Montreal, demonstrating a longstanding dedication to humanitarian and social causes.
A resident of Pierrefonds-Roxboro since 1986, and with his business based here since 2004, Sharkie considers this a welcoming and tightly knit community that is a wonderful place to call home. His election as Borough Councillor in 2021 marked a new chapter in his public service journey. In recent years, he has had the opportunity to engage directly with residents, learn from their experiences, and better understand their needs to actively contribute to improving quality of life in the district.
With over 20 years of experience in promotion, communications, and community engagement, Sharkie Tarakjian remains committed to working closely with the people of Pierrefonds-Roxboro to strengthen community spirit, encourage civic participation, and preserve the sense of belonging that makes this borough so unique.
