Effie Giannou

Candidate - City Councillor
BORDEAUX-CARTIERVILLE

Biography

Elected as City Councillor in 2017 for the district of Bordeaux-Cartierville, Effie Giannou currently serves as Vice-President of the Montréal City Council. Born and raised in the very neighborhood she represents, she has dedicated her two terms to advocating for key issues: safer communities, an improved quality of life for families, seniors, and newcomers, and maintaining an ongoing dialogue with residents.

Deeply involved with cultural communities, Effie works tirelessly to promote social cohesion and to strengthen the bonds between generations and the diverse cultures that make up Bordeaux-Cartierville. Known for her close ties to the population, her strategic insight, and her ability to rally support, she embodies an inspiring form of leadership, particularly for young women in politics.

The past eight years have not been without challenges, often spent in opposition to the administration in power. Yet, they have forged her determination and reinforced her belief that it is time for meaningful change in Montréal. Energized by the renewed momentum brought by Soraya Martinez Ferrada and the Ensemble Montréal team, Effie is committed to turning this experience into tangible results for her community.

Passionate about public relations and politics, Effie is a seasoned leader in communications, crisis management, as well as coaching public speakers, with over 20 years of professional experience. She prioritizes using this skill set in service of her community and fellow citizens with rigor and creativity.

Also engaged in the sports and community sectors, Effie strongly believes in the power of collective activities to foster inclusion and youth development.
