Biography
Architect and engineer Jean Beaudoin has lived, worked, and been actively involved in the Plateau for over 25 years. He is known for his ability to bring together on-the-ground expertise, citizen ideas, and academic research to create human-scale living environments. Deeply devoted to his community, Jean has contributed to transforming the Louis-H.-Lafontaine elementary schoolyard, supported the Jeanne-Mance Premier Choix social movement for public schooling, and helped develop the Au Monastère community center, which houses 15 key nonprofits from the Plateau. Elected three times to the board of the Quebec Order of Architects, he has worked on governance, strategic planning, and to champion responsible, cross-disciplinary practices.
Jean is running for mayor of Plateau-Mont-Royal to champion a bold and inclusive vision rooted in the realities of the neighborhood and its urban villages. He aims to guide the borough through its transition by focusing on:
- Coherent mobility for all, optimized and adapted to construction work and seasonal changes, designed with the community to ensure their safety;
- Promoting cohabitation and dialogue between institutions, artists, businesses, and residents across the borough’s diverse neighbourhoods;
- Gentle and innovative densification, respectful of the residential fabric and housing needs, adaptable to the different stages of life within a neighbourhood.
As the founder of Atelier de design intégral and the nonprofit Nomade, Jean has led numerous projects that have transformed Montréal’s public spaces, namely the signage for the Quartier des spectacles and UQAM’s passageways, the summer redevelopment of Mont-Royal Avenue and Sainte-Catherine Street East, and Îles trails in Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Today, Jean seeks to put his practical, institutional, and academic expertise at the service of Plateau residents with Ensemble Montréal – Team Soraya, driving a political approach that is strong, inclusive, and rooted in the realities of everyday life.
