Arriving in Verdun in 1984 at the age of six, Jean-François Guay has been deeply rooted in the life of his neighborhood for nearly 40 years. From his early days in minor hockey to his current roles as community leader, social entrepreneur, and dedicated volunteer, he has always worked to bring people together and improve the quality of life in Verdun.
His journey began on the ice, playing minor hockey for 14 years, often as captain or assistant captain, before going on to organize community-building events like Verdun’s Rendez-Vous Mondial du Cerf-volant and the En-Ballon Festival. These initiatives became traditions that strengthened the sense of belonging in the borough. He also worked for seven years as a recreation technician at École secondaire Mgr-Richard and for nearly a decade as director of Le Messager de Verdun.
Beyond sports, Jean-François has played key leadership roles in the community. He has served as President of the Richelieu Club of Verdun, Vice-President of the South-West Chamber of Commerce, and board member for the Verdun Business Network and the Champlain Foundation. He has helped lead major fundraising efforts, including events that raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Verdun Hospital, and earned multiple distinctions for his long-standing commitment to civic life.
In politics, Jean-François worked as a political attaché for the Verdun MNA, supporting residents during the COVID-19 crisis, helping local organizations secure funding, and championing programs for senior care and student perseverance.
In 2022, he founded Auxilium – Assistance à domicile, a social enterprise dedicated to providing frontline services to vulnerable residents with care, empathy, and professionalism.
A proud father of three boys, Jean-François Guay now seeks to bring his experience, dedication, and leadership to the role of City Councillor for Desmarchais-Crawford, with a vision for a stronger, more inclusive, and community-focused Verdun.
