Biography
Spokesperson for intercultural relations, participatory democracy, public consultation, and organizational performance
Member of the Commission on Social Development and Montreal Diversity
Sonny Moroz is passionate about local politics and is well-known for his grassroots work, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Snowdon. He works daily to improve the quality of life in Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, always putting residents’ needs first.
Before entering municipal politics, Sonny worked in the constituency office of federal MP Anthony Housefather (Mount Royal). As Outreach Coordinator, he gained valuable experience supporting seniors, families, and vulnerable individuals, serving as a key point of contact during the pandemic.
Since being elected in 2021, Sonny has been a driving force for change on city council. He has:
- Amended the City of Montreal’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policy to include measures against hate crimes, antisemitism, and Islamophobia.
- Led the adoption of Jewish Heritage Month in Montreal.
- Actively supported lowering speed limits on residential streets to improve safety.
- Worked to attract new investments for community programs, especially in Côte-des-Neiges, to support youth, families, and seniors.
Sonny is also a strong ally of the borough’s cultural communities. He supported the recognition of Philippine Heritage Month and advocated for sports infrastructure for the Tamil community, particularly for cricket and human rights initiatives.
Driven by a deep sense of public service, Sonny continues to amplify the voices of citizens overlooked by the current administration. For him, being a city councillor means rigorously defending everyday issues like safety, cleanliness, housing, equity, and inclusion. It also means being accessible, present in the community, and always ready to move forward on the issues that matter most.
