{"id":18406,"date":"2025-09-28T14:50:24","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T18:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/?p=18406"},"modified":"2025-09-28T14:50:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T18:50:25","slug":"housing-commitments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/en\/actualites\/housing-commitments\/","title":{"rendered":"Soraya Martinez Ferrada Commits to Facilitating First-Time Homeownership in Montr\u00e9al"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The leader of Ensemble Montr\u00e9al and candidate for mayor of Montreal, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, committed on Sunday to putting in place measures for citizens who wish to acquire their first property in the metropolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This announcement comes in a context where more and more young people are leaving Montr\u00e9al, as becoming homeowners has become increasingly difficult for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensemble Montr\u00e9al therefore wishes to allow young families to stay in the metropolis and to settle there in a sustainable way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Commitments<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An administration led by Soraya Martinez Ferrada will completely review the <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/en\/programs\/home-purchase-assistance-program\">Homeownership Assistance Program<\/a> and work with the SHDM to deploy measures that respond to the current needs of Montrealers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Offer financial assistance equivalent to the \u201cwelcome tax\u201d <\/strong>to first-time buyers of a new property whose value is below a predetermined threshold, for the first two years of the mandate.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Help first-time buyers gather their down payment<\/strong> when purchasing a new property whose value will be below a predetermined threshold.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These two measures will support the purchase of a first new property and stimulate the supply of housing in a context of a housing crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Ensemble Montr\u00e9al would study the possibility of introducing two other initiatives whose objective would also be to facilitate the purchase of a first property:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Develop a \u201cTenant to Owner\u201d program <\/strong>allowing tenants to invest part of their rent into a down payment, with the goal of permanently acquiring their housing.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put in place measures to support the creation of<strong> homeowner housing cooperatives <\/strong>and thus work on affordable properties.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These measures are added to the commitment already made by Ensemble Montr\u00e9al to create \u201cFamily Homeowners,\u201d a program for access to property dedicated to families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, Ensemble Montr\u00e9al commits to maintaining its promise allowing first-time buyers to spread out the payment of the welcome tax into 12 installments, without interest, when purchasing an existing property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/habitation-1-1-1000x563.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/habitation-1-1-1000x563.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/habitation-1-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/habitation-1-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/habitation-1-1-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ensemblemtl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/habitation-1-1.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quotes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYoung people are leaving Montr\u00e9al because they are not able to buy a first property here.
