Ensemble Montr\u00e9al Leader and mayoral candidate for the metropolis, Soraya Martinez Ferrada<\/strong>, has announced a major investment in emergency housing resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of $100 million<\/strong> will be allocated for the acquisition and renovation of buildings to develop new small-scale emergency shelters<\/strong> across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work will be carried out in collaboration with the Tactical Homelessness Intervention Group (GITI)<\/strong>, which Ensemble Montr\u00e9al has committed to creating, to identify the most suitable locations and best practices for implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This investment builds on previously announced commitments to:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Develop at least 2,000 transitional and permanent housing units<\/strong> with psychosocial support during a first mandate;
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Invest $120 million<\/strong> to support frontline community organizations and outreach workers;
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Prevent housing loss<\/strong> through microloans for vulnerable tenants;
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Create a housing bank<\/strong> for households at risk of homelessness;
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Coordinate all partners\u2019 actions<\/strong> through a Tactical Homelessness Intervention Group;
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Double the SPVM\u2019s mixed teams<\/strong> (police and social workers);
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Improve safety and transparency<\/strong> of police interventions through the use of body cameras and street cameras.
