Doug Hurley elected mayor of L’Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève : “A clear signal from the community”
Ensemble Montréal, the party that forms the Official Opposition at Montreal City Hall, is pleased to announce the election of Mr. Doug Hurley as mayor of the borough of L’Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève. Elected with an overwhelming majority, this renewal of confidence on the part of the community is a clear signal that the work done by Ensemble Montréal is much appreciated and must continue.
“My first words go to the residents who placed their trust in me and to the volunteers who supported me throughout my campaign. For me, L’Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève is more than just the borough you visit at election time. It’s been my home for almost 40 years. I can’t wait to get to work improving the community’s quality of life, bringing it together and giving it the voice it deserves at Montreal City Hall,” enthused Doug Hurley, who was with his team of volunteers when the results were announced.
Mr. Hurley is proud of the campaign he led alongside his Ensemble Montréal colleagues, which he describes as unifying, humane, close to citizens and focused on their needs.
Supported by the local team of Danielle Myrand, Suzanne Marceau, Richard Bélanger and Alain Wilson, all members of Ensemble Montréal, he will work to quickly respond to the community’s aspirations. Their local platform contains some twenty commitments focused on community safety and resilience, prioritizing the well-being of families, preserving the ecosystem, improving mobility, offering quality services and pursuing responsible governance.
“I’m very excited about Doug’s addition to our caucus. He is a man close to his community, who will work in the interests of residents, merchants and farmers. The result is proof that citizens are satisfied with the trust they have placed in us. Our party is in a good position to put an end to the current administration’s finest hour in the city-centre”, declared the leader of Ensemble Montréal, Mr. Aref Salem.
Doug Hurley has had the privilege of serving the public with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) for over 30 years, first as a police officer, then as an intervention officer, and finally as a commander in the criminal investigation division. In addition to his extensive career with the SPVM, Mr. Hurley is a professor in the police technology program at John Abbott College.
Aware of the importance of community spirit and a sense of belonging, he has also served as president of the Club Optimiste de L’Île-Bizard. Throughout his mandate, he organized several local guignolées and helped citizens overcome the floods of 2017 and 2019. This is in addition to his involvement as a coach for various sports clubs in the borough.
