Pointe-à-Callière Museum: Ensemble Montréal to Move Forward with Expansion Project

Ensemble Montréal’s spokesperson for Cultural Affairs, Lorraine Pintal, announced that under a Soraya Martinez Ferrada administration, the party would take an active role in revising the financial framework of the Pointe-à-Callière Museum expansion project, ensuring it aligns with the expectations of residents and local merchants.

A major tourist attraction in Montreal, the Pointe-à-Callière archaeological and historical site welcomes over half a million visitors annually—four times its original capacity. The museum’s expansion is therefore essential.

An Ensemble Montréal administration commits to reassessing the costs of the final development phase of the City of Archaeology and History of Montréal at Pointe-à-Callière.

The preservation of culture and heritage lies at the heart of Lorraine Pintal and Soraya Martinez Ferrada’s priorities. They will be steadfast allies in supporting the expansion and enhancement of Canada’s largest archaeological site.

Unfortunately, in recent years, Projet Montréal’s administration has withdrawn its support for the museum’s expansion project.

Commitments:

  • Launch a new study to assess the costs of the final development phase of the City of Archaeology and History at Pointe-à-Callière, located on the site of Canada’s former Parliament and the Sainte-Anne Market.
  • Transform this site into a City of Culture and Education adapted to the 21st century, equipped with cutting-edge technological tools.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and act as an active and genuine partner with the Pointe-à-Callière Museum throughout the project’s realization.

Quotes:

“With more than half a million visitors every year, we must support the Pointe-à-Callière Museum to showcase the history of our metropolis. This is a priority project for Old Montreal, but also for the city’s economic and tourism vitality.”
Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Mayoral Candidate for Montreal and Leader of Ensemble Montréal

“The Pointe-à-Callière Museum is a jewel of our collective heritage. Its expansion is a unique opportunity to pass on our history to future generations in a vibrant, innovative, and accessible setting. Ensemble Montréal will make culture a driver of pride, visibility, and development.”
Lorraine Pintal, Ensemble Montréal’s Spokesperson for Cultural Affairs and Candidate for the Vieux-Rosemont District

“The Pointe-à-Callière Museum bears witness to the founding of our city and is the largest archaeological site in Canada. Its invaluable remains deserve to be celebrated and visited by people from around the world.”
Claude Pinard, Candidate for City Councillor, Saint-Jacques District, Ensemble Montréal
