Although centuries have passed since its founding, Montreal remains marked today by the imprint left by those who built it. As you might expect, the history of Ville-Marie is inseparable from that of the city. For nearly 200 years, Montreal was limited to the territory of the current borough, until industrialization and urbanization began to push back the traditional boundaries of the city. Since then, the 21st century has been a time of affirmation for the borough, a time of belonging to the modern world of Montreal and all of Quebec.
