Lachine, initially called Saint-Sulpice, was originally a vast domain granted to Robert Cavelier de La Salle to settle settlers and clear the land, but Cavelier having chosen to discover the China route, Saint-Sulpice was, by derision, renamed Lachine, a name that would become official in 1676 with the creation of the parish of Saints-Anges de Lachine.
