Contrary to what their name suggests, the Lachine Rapids are located in LaSalle. This name comes from the fact that, under the French Regime, the heart of the parish of Lachine was located on the actual territory of LaSalle. Since then, this village core has moved to form the old Lachine, and the territory in front of the impetuous rapids took the name of the first seigneur of the place, the explorer Robert René Cavelier de La Salle.
