Ensemble Montréal Kicks Off Its Leadership Race
With just over a year until the municipal elections, Ensemble Montréal officially unveils the rules for its leadership race, a pivotal moment for the party’s future. The race will begin on October 15, 2024, and run for four months. The new leader of Ensemble Montréal will be elected at a Leadership Convention on February 16, 2025, following a week-long voting period. All party members residing in Montreal will be eligible to vote.
“We are entering a crucial and particularly exciting phase for Ensemble Montréal and for the citizens of our metropolis,” says Carmine Pollice, President of Ensemble Montréal. “We invite all those who want a fairer, more prosperous, and more equitable Montreal to join our movement. Together, we’ll elect a visionary leader ready to tackle the complex challenges our city faces. It’s through public engagement that we will put the priorities of Montrealers back at the heart of municipal action.”
Patrick Thauvette, Executive Director of Ensemble Montréal, adds, “This leadership race marks a turning point for Ensemble Montréal. It will allow our members to choose a leader capable of translating their aspirations into concrete actions. It’s a unique opportunity to renew our commitment to citizens and propose innovative solutions to address the challenges Montreal faces.”
Prospective leadership candidates will have until December 15, 2024, to submit their candidacy. To be eligible, they must collect signatures from 200 members, including at least 100 signatures from new members, recruited from a minimum of 10 Montreal boroughs. They must also raise $15,000 in donations or party memberships.
A Party Aligned with Montrealers’ Priorities
Candidates will join a party firmly established in 11 boroughs and represented by 37 elected officials committed to their communities. Currently, Ensemble Montréal forms the Official Opposition at City Hall and is resolutely focused on the future. This leadership race is a unique opportunity to bring fresh energy and offer hope to the many citizens seeking change.
The crucial issues awaiting candidates include the housing crisis, homelessness crisis, and public safety – challenges the current administration has failed to adequately address. Ensemble Montréal looks forward to discovering the candidates’ proposals and vision, which must not only tackle these crises but also enrich the solutions already put forward by the party.
